UD field hockey team rises to No. 10 in national poll

The University of Delaware field hockey team, which enjoyed an upset of the then-No. 5 University of Virginia over the weekend, is ranked No. 10 in the most recent Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I coaches poll.

The Blue Hens, who were ranked No. 14 in the preseason poll, received 401 points for the No. 10 ranking. UD, which is now 3-1 on the season, had not been in the top 10 since 1998. That year, UD reached a No. 6 ranking.

In this week's poll, defending national champion Syracuse, which is 4-0, claimed the No. 1 spot with 788 points and 25 first place votes. Duke was second and North Carolina fell out of the top spot to No. 3.

The next poll will be announced Sept. 13. The poll is based on votes of NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on NCAA championship tournament selection.
