Early bird housing application

Application offers students priority in campus housing selection

Through Oct. 31, current first-year students at the University of Delaware can choose to commit early to living on campus for their second year.

By applying for on-campus housing during the early bird application period, first-year students are guaranteed housing for 2017-18 and receive priority points, which in turn get them an earlier room selection time slot.

“A second year on campus is known to help students avoid symptoms of the sophomore slump,” said Kathleen Kerr, executive director of Residence Life and Housing. “Students can stay connected to important University resources and support while forming attachments to their areas of study and to their community.”

First-year students who do not apply for 2017-18 housing in October can apply for guaranteed housing for next year in February, but will not receive the additional priority in room selection.

“Students don’t need to know now where they want to live or with whom they wish to live,” said Karen DeMonte, associate director, Residence Life and Housing, “Roommate and room selection happens in the spring, when students are better prepared to make those decisions for next year.”

Open houses are being offered in late October for students interested in touring the current upper division housing locations.

Current upper division students were guaranteed housing if they applied by the end of September. Late applicants will be accommodated as space permits.
