UD men’s basketball picked 10th in CAA preseason poll

The University of Delaware men’s basketball team was picked 10th in the Colonial Athletic Association preseason poll and redshirt sophomore Chivarsky Corbett was selected preseason All-CAA honorable mention at CAA Basketball Media Day held Tuesday at the Key Bridge Marriott.

The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) was selected to defend its conference title according to a vote of CAA head coaches, media relations directors, and media members.

Towson was picked second in the poll, followed by William and Mary, Charleston and James Madison. Hofstra was selected sixth, ahead of Northeastern, Elon, Drexel and UD.

Corbett started the first four games of last year before suffering a season-ending ACL injury at Temple on Nov. 29, and sat out the remainder of the campaign as a redshirt. He posted 12 points and a season-high seven rebounds in the season-opening win at Delaware State, and scored a season-best 15 points to go with five boards at Iona.

Corbett appeared in all 30 games as a freshman in 2014-15, when he averaged 8.8 points per game and earned CAA All-Rookie honors. He ranked third on the team with 46 three-pointers made and a 4.2 rebounding average, and reached double figures in 13 games including a career-high 21 points at Robert Morris.

Chris Flemmings of UNCW was named the CAA preseason player of the year and was joined on the first team All-CAA by William Adala Moto of Towson, Jarrell Brantley of Charleston, Rokas Gustys of Hofstra and Omar Prewitt of William and Mary. The second team consisted of Shakir Brown of James Madison, Daniel Dixon of William and Mary, Denzel Ingram of UNCW, Cameron Johnson of Charleston and Mike Morsell of Towson.

Corbett, Brian Bernardi of Hofstra, CJ Bryce of UNCW, Yohanny Dalembert of James Madison, Jeremy Miller of Northeastern, Tyler Seibring of Elon and Rodney Williams of Drexel were selected honorable mention.

The CAA television schedule was also announced at Media Day, with the Blue Hens having four regular season games televised this season. UD’s contest at Seton Hall on Dec. 17 will be broadcast by YES, along with three conference games.

The Blue Hens’ road game at Northeastern on Jan. 5 will be televised by the American Sports Network, while the home game vs. Towson on Jan. 21 will be broadcast by Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic. UD’s game at Charleston on Feb. 23 will be shown by WCIV in the Charleston area, while the contest at South Florida on Dec. 22 will be available at ESPN3.com.

All UD home games that are not televised will be available online at BlueHens.com, while all non-televised league road games will be available at CAA.TV.

Comcast SportsNet will broadcast the four CAA tournament quarterfinal games on March 4 and the two semifinals on March 5, while the championship game on March 6 will also be televised.
