Mary Dozier to deliver Francis Alison Inaugural Lecture on “Improving Outcomes for Vulnerable Children’
Mary Dozier, recipient of the University of Delaware’s 2016 Francis Alison Faculty Award, will present the Francis Alison Inaugural Lecture at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Gore Recital Hall of the Roselle Center for the Arts on the Newark campus.
Her topic will be “Improving Outcomes for Vulnerable Children: Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up.”
A reception will be held after the lecture in the lobby of the Roselle Center for the Arts.

Dozier, who is the Unidel Amy E. du Pont Chair in Child Development in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, is internationally known for her work in the development of young children who have experienced neglect or other adversity. She leads the Infant Caregiver Project at UD, where she and her team have developed an evidence-based intervention for parents and other caregivers of vulnerable children.
After serving on the faculty of Trinity University, she joined UD in 1993 and was appointed the Amy E. du Pont Chair in 2004.
Dozier graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Duke University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1976 and earned her doctorate there in 1983. From 1982-84, she completed an internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, D.C.
The Francis Alison Faculty Award is the University's highest competitive faculty honor, established by the Board of Trustees in 1978 to recognize faculty members who best demonstrate the combination of scholarship and teaching exemplified by the Rev. Francis Alison, founder of the institution to which UD traces its roots.
