Signal work requires daytime lane closures at East Main, The Green
The Delaware Department of Transportation's (DelDOT) Traffic Signal Construction Section and Byers Electrical are scheduled to install a new traffic signal with pedestrian countdown system at the intersection of East Main Street and the University of Delaware’s Green in Newark.
The project, at the pedestrian intersection near UD’s Elliott Hall and just west of the Main Street Galleria, is expected to improve pedestrian safety and vehicular traffic flow through the intersection.
The project was jointly agreed upon by DelDOT and the city of Newark.
DelDOT has been responsible for design and implementation efforts, while the city has funded the construction.
Daytime intermittent lane closures will occur at the intersection from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, starting June 1.
Flaggers will be on-site to direct motorists through the intersection.
This project is anticipated to be complete by the end of July, pending weather delays.
