UD women’s golf team to compete in five tournaments, host invitational

The 2016 University of Delaware women’s golf schedule has been announced, and the team will compete in five tournaments and will again host the UD Invitational in Rehoboth Beach.

UD will open its slate on Sept. 15-17 at the Rutgers Invitational in Piscataway, New Jersey, before competing in the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational in State College, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 24-25. UD captured the team title at the Rutgers Invitational last year and placed second at the Nittany Lion Invitational.

The Blue Hens will compete in the Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Club in Princeton, New Jersey, on Oct. 1-2, and then head west for the Ron Moore Women’s Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Denver at Highlands Ranch (Colorado) Golf Course on Oct. 7-9.

The following weekend the Blue Hens will wrap up their fall schedule by hosting the fourth annual University of Delaware Invitational on Oct. 22-23 at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club.

UD, led by sixth-year head coach Patty Post, is coming off a highly successful campaign that saw the Blue Hens claim two titles, including the Colonial Athletic Association championship, and advance to the NCAA Bryan (Texas) Regional.

The Blue Hens return four letter winners this season, including senior Vitoria Teixeira, who averaged 78.86 shots per round while competing in seven tournaments last year.

Sophomores Valentina Mueller, who posted a 79.88 average round, and Ashley Dingman, who averaged 80 shots per round, also return after both players participated in six invitationals.

Senior Grace Chua is also back after she averaged 80.90 strokes per round while competing in seven tournaments during the 2015-16 campaign.

“Our fall schedule really suits our team,” said Post. “We have been playing Rutgers, Princeton and our home event for four years now, and our course knowledge will really help our younger girls get a jumpstart. We will return to Penn State again this year after having a solid showing there last year. We added a trip out west to the University of Denver to challenge us a bit against a very strong field. We are very excited for the upcoming season.”
