Therapy Approach

The foundation of my work is relational psychoanalysis. I deeply value the relationship, what the client I each bring to the room and how our unique identities, beliefs, views, somatic qualities and life experiences intermingle and dance in the therapeutic space. This translates to a collaborative process in which the client and I work together to better understand the present as it may relate to past unformulated experiences. As we engage in depth-oriented work and what is happening between us, I also integrate symptom management skills and DBT to expand the client's repertoire of coping skills while accelerating the pace of change and increasing confidence. Clients feel accepted by me, understood, bolstered and challenged as we work toward meaningful change.

Supervision Approach

My approach to supervision is relational at its core—just as the therapeutic relationship is a deeply meaningful, real relationship, so is the supervision relationship. This translates to a highly collaborative space in which I seek to see and understand my supervisees and their unique strengths, receive and provide feedback, teach or enhance interventions, discuss pertinent readings and bolster skill and confidence. I ask that we explore reactions to clients and supervision in the service of furthering the treatment. I expect that we will be serious, but also laugh and have fun together—this is a must! Above all, I value creating a safe enough space in which my supervisees feel and trust the positive regard I hold for them and feel safe challenging themselves or making a "mistake," as these moments are often the greatest impetus for growth of both client and clinician.
