Therapy Approach
My theoretical orientation for providing counseling is best described as integration and eclectic influenced by person-centered therapy and constructive theory. My approach to counseling is from a perspective that the client is the expert on the challenges they face in their day to day lives. Fostering an empathetic, respectful and collaborative relationship with the client provides a space to explore vulnerabilities, gain personal insight and learn how to improve their wellbeing. My goal for treatment is to make the experience as personalized for the clients as possible. This includes exploring childhood relationships, family dynamics, environmental triggers, psychoeducation, their understanding of themselves, understanding their life story and ways to improve behavioral patterns that are maladaptive. Overall, my treatment pulls from multiple theoretical perspectives to promote the understanding that the client has the power to make the changes needed in order for them to live their life wholeheartedly.
Supervision Approach
My approach to supervision is the developmental model. I am a firm believer that as clinicians we are lifelong learners both professionally and personally. Being a lifelong learner, there is an importance in providing flexibility in the supervision experience. This is because my goal as a supervisor is to provide a space for future clinicians to visit and explore any developmental stage they may experience, which stages can vary based on their professional and personal goals. The supervision experience is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to be flexible in the way that they conceptualize and approach treatment. My ultimate goal is to foster confidence in their ability to be genuine and authentic in the relationships they build with clients, while also validating the understanding that it is okay to not have all the answers, seek consultation and lean into the passion of wanting to help others in the best way we can.
