The UD Makerspace is the central hub of the UD MakerNetwork.

Fall 2024 Training Reservation change:

  • Online training reservations are no longer available.
  • Walk-ins are now accepted for scheduled trainings on a first-come-first-served basis (if space is available).
  • To guarantee a place in a training please email makerspace@udel.edu, or stop by the Makerspace with your request.

All users, regardless of previous experience, must complete and maintain Makerspace training credentials in order to use the UD Makerspace.Classes, Workshops and Training

Your training request will not be honored if you have not
completed the necessary prerequisites. 

If you are unsure of the prerequisites please consult the descriptions below.

Be advised that training will start promptly and you must attend the entire session to gain your credential.

Orientation

This is the prerequisite for all other training. Orientation includes a facility tour and policy review. Orientation takes place in the MakerSpace weekdays at 12:30 pm (30 minutes) OR virtually through Canvas by request

Basic CAD (Computer Aided Design)

CAD is the common language for the digital processes in the MakerSpace. To gain this credential users must pass both a 2D CAD Proficiency Test and a 3D CAD Proficiency Test.

If you do not have CAD experience, a self-guided tutorial for AutoDesk Fusion360 is available through Canvas.

Laser Cutting/Marking

This in-person training covers how to prep a file for engraving/cutting on the MakerSpace Universal lasers.

3D Printing - FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling)

In this virtual training (Canvas) users learn to prepare, slice and submit a file via 3DPrinterOS to the MakerSpace Ultimaker printers.

Textiles

This in-person class covers procedures for using the Juki sewing machine. Upon completion of the training and project users will be authorized to use the machines independently.

Waterjet

This in-person training introduces a user to preparing and cutting a file using ProtoMAX software on the waterjet.

Prerequisites: Orientation, Basic CAD, Laser Cutting/Marking

Fine Arts Printing

This in-person class trains a user on various ways to print a file on the Epson SureColor P9000 fine arts printer.

Shop

This in-person training spans two hours, and includes machine lecture, demonstration, skills practice and time to complete a takeaway project.

CNC Router

This 4-hour session covers basic operation of the CNC router, prepping a file and exporting CAM from Fusion 360, and running that CAM file on the CNC router.
