Maintaining a healthy campus this fall
September 06, 2024 Written by University of Delaware
Dear UD community:
For the collective health and safety of our University community, please familiarize yourself with these important campus guidelines and resources for COVID-19:
Isolation and masking
Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 are advised to stay away from others (remaining out of classes, offices and public spaces, for example) and receive to-go meals until their symptoms have improved and they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication. CDC guidance encourages added precaution over the next five days, including wearing a well-fitted mask when returning to normal activities.
Exposure
Individuals who are exposed to someone with COVID-19 should monitor their condition for symptoms, then test if symptoms develop. See below for details on the availability of rapid at-home COVID-19 tests for purchase on campus.
Student actions and absentee guidance
Students with COVID-19 and other mild short-term illnesses should communicate directly with professors as soon as possible about potential class absence. Students can return to class when symptoms have improved and they are without a fever for 24 hours. Wearing a mask around others for five days is recommended. Students with respiratory illnesses who are in need of medical evaluation or treatment should schedule an appointment with Student Health Services, their personal healthcare provider, or a local urgent care center as needed. (Formal documentation from SHS is not required for COVID-19 or other mild respiratory illnesses.)
Rapid test kits
COVID-19 home antigen test kits are available for purchase on campus at the Student Health Dispensary or Wellbeing Vending machine in Perkins, as well as retail locations.
Vaccine availability
In partnership with Albertson’s pharmacy, UD will host pop-up flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinics this fall for students, faculty and staff. Reserve your spot at one of the clinics. You must bring a health insurance card with you to receive COVID-19 and/or flu vaccines. Learn more about the clinics.
Additional recommendations
If you have symptoms of a respiratory virus, take precautions to prevent spread, including masking, hand hygiene and improved air ventilation (open windows, use a fan, gather outdoors, etc.). If you have risk factors for severe illness, see Student Health or your healthcare provider for possible treatment to help lower your risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death.
More information is available on the University’s page dedicated to COVID-19 information.
Thank you for your continued commitment to preserving your individual health and prioritizing the wellness of our entire campus community.
