Maintaining a healthy campus this fall

Dear UD community:

The University of Delaware updated its COVID-19 policies last spring in accordance with the CDC’s issuance of updated recommendations regarding respiratory viruses, including COVID-19.

For the collective health and safety of our University community, please familiarize yourself with these important guidelines and resources:

Isolation and masking

Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 are advised to stay away from others (remaining out of classes, offices and public spaces, for example) and receive to-go meals until their symptoms have improved and they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication. CDC guidance encourages added precaution over the next five days, including wearing a well-fitted mask when returning to normal activities.

Exposure

Individuals who are exposed to someone with COVID-19 must monitor their condition for symptoms, then test if symptoms develop.

Student actions and absentee guidance

Students with COVID-19 and other mild short-term illnesses should communicate directly with professors as soon as possible about possible class absence. Students can return to class wearing a well-fitted mask when symptoms have improved and they are without a fever for 24 hours. Students with respiratory illnesses should contact Student Health Services for medical treatment purposes as needed. (Documentation from SHS is not required for COVID-19 or other such respiratory illnesses.)

Rapid test kits

COVID-19 home antigen test kits are available for purchase on campus at the Student Health Dispensary or Wellbeing Vending machine in Perkins, as well as retail locations.

Vaccine availability

In partnership with Albertson’s pharmacy, UD will host 12 pop-up vaccine clinics this fall at which COVID-19 and flu vaccines will be available to students, faculty and staff. Reserve your spot at one of the clinics. You must bring a health insurance card with you to receive COVID-19 and/or flu vaccines. Learn more about the clinics.

Additional recommendations

If you have symptoms of a respiratory virus, take precautions to prevent spread, including maskinghand hygiene and improved air ventilation (open windows, use a fan, gather outdoors, etc.). If you have risk factors for severe illness, see Student Health or your healthcare provider for possible treatment to help lower your risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death.

More information is available on the University’s page dedicated to COVID-19 information

Thank you for your continued commitment to preserving your individual health and prioritizing the wellness of our entire campus community.
