Application Process

The employee must log into web forms, select BEN Educational Benefits. Click the button for Tuition Exchange, complete the form accordingly, then select Submit. Up to five schools may be listed on the web form.

All TE webforms must be submitted by the deadline (preceding Wednesday before the lottery drawing date). This also includes faculty who are not participating in the lottery.

The lottery drawing date is the last Friday in October.

Late applications are NOT accepted.

Limitations

The opportunity to participate in this competitive scholarship program is automatic for one child. However, additional slots are available (by lottery) for faculty who wish a second eligible dependent child to participate in TEP.

Employees who terminate their University employment are not eligible to receive Tuition Exchange for the full academic year. If the student is currently enrolled in a fall or spring semester, he or she will be able to complete that semester only. Employees should notify the UD Tuition Exchange liaison of their separation from the University.

Tuition Exchange Process for Faculty

Human Resources will announce in UDaily (usually mid-August) that we are opening submission for Tuition Exchange (TE) Web Forms. This would be for the following academic year (i.e. August 2023 is for AY2024-2025).

The web form is the vehicle used to alert Human Resources that a faculty member has a dependent participating in TE. TE Web Forms are accepted mid-August through the third week of October.  After receipt of the TE web form and review of eligibility, Human Resources will notify the faculty member how to submit the official Tuition Exchange Application(s) on behalf of their child to their selected schools. Institutions will usually notify the student once a decision has been made of either, a TE scholarship offer, wait list, or not offered. It can vary greatly from school to school when you are notified of a TE decision. Each institution has a Tuition Exchange Liaison and you are always more than welcome to contact them for additional information pertaining to their specific TE criteria.

If the faculty member has a second child who wishes to participate/compete for a TE scholarship at the same time the faculty’s first child is already utilizing TE, then the second child must be entered in the faculty lottery.  If selected in the faculty lottery, the second child may also submit for TE. The lottery is held the last Friday in October each year.

The faculty member may be approved by HR as an export and the dependent may be approved for admission at the other institution, but not be granted tuition exchange. The Tuition Exchange scholarship is not a guarantee and is very competitive. We suggest, to discuss your prospects with the admissions office and/or TE Liaison at the institution and ask how many Tuition Exchange Scholarships they offer annually. The TE Liaison and/or Admissions office at the other school may be able to provide some information in terms of the likelihood of TE Scholarship or at least their scholarship statistics. If TE is awarded, it is usually guaranteed for four years, as long as the student remains in good academic standing and the faculty member is eligible. If your child is not awarded Tuition Exchange in year one, inquire if the school considers currently enrolled. We also  suggest that you research the dollar value of the Tuition Exchange Scholarship. High Tuition Schools can elect to provide a scholarship amount (not full tuition) set by Tuition Exchange, Inc. This is referred to as the set rate.
