- A book artist, Carothers' work has exhibited nationally and internationally. Her books are part of numerous museum and library collections including: Library of Congress, Museum of Modern Art and Cooper-Hewitt Museum.
- Her bookworks incorporate letterpress printing and handbinding along with computer design and printing. Related interests include illustrated children's books, pop-up and movable books and renowned children's book publisher Harlin Quist.
