- Examines equity issues in science education, in particular, the role race and gender play in students' achievement, attitudes and participation. Scantlebury is working to identify factors that influence both minority students and girls and develop strategies to close the achievement gap.
- Investigating the teaching and learning of chemistry in urban schools.
- Other areas of interest include educating science teachers and best practices in evaluating their work.
- Named fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Recipient of numerous Association for Science Teacher Education awards.
