Areas of Expertise
Specializes in Italian Baroque art including the works of: Caravaggio, Carracci, Crespi, Guercino, Orazio, Artemisia Gentileschi, Poussin and Bernini.
A leading international authority on the Bolognese artist Guercino, Stone has written extensively on the painter/draftsman, organized an exhibition of his work and consulted the National Gallery of Art on its 1992 exhibition.
Co-authored the book "Caravaggio: Art, Knighthood, and Malta."
- Trustee of the American Academy in Rome, a center for independent research and advanced study in the fine arts and humanities.
