Delayed opening on Jan. 7

The University’s offices will open at 10 a.m. Classes at that time will meet as scheduled, as well.

Due to the lingering impacts of Monday’s winter storm, the University of Delaware’s Newark campus, and other UD locations in New Castle County, will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7. Essential personnel should report to work as scheduled.
UD Facilities staff will work during the morning to clear campus parking lots and treat sidewalks for snow-covered, wet and/or icy conditions.
Instructors of classes scheduled to meet before 10 a.m. should communicate with their students in these course sections, as these sessions may convene virtually or be canceled at the instructor’s discretion. University offices will open at 10 a.m. Non-essential employees who need to adjust their work schedules or work remotely on Tuesday should communicate with their supervisors to make necessary arrangements.
Residence Life and Housing staff, and other essential services, will be available to students. Regarding Student Wellbeing, patients with appointments prior to 10 a.m. at Student Health Services, Sports Medicine and the Center for Counseling and Student Development will be contacted to reschedule. Utilize the UD Hotline and other resources to access after-hours and 24/7 medical- and crisis-care support.
Dining will operate on a regular schedule beginning at 7 a.m. For additional information, including hours of operation at retail locations, visit the Dining Services website at https://udel.campusdish.com/ or the Instagram account for UD Dining Services.
Update: Transportation services will commence at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday.
Members of the University community are reminded to use caution and drive carefully.
Modifications for other University campuses
The University’s Lewes and Paradee campuses will modify operations and academic instruction for Jan. 7. Instructors of classes are asked to communicate with their course sections, as these sessions may convene virtually or be canceled or rescheduled at the instructor’s discretion. Potential transition of these courses could be either synchronous virtual classroom instruction or an asynchronous format. Flexibility is appreciated; this action prioritizes the safety and well-being of our students and faculty while ensuring academic continuity.
Essential personnel should report to these campuses for work as scheduled. Non-essential employees at the Paradee and Lewes campuses should work remotely on Jan. 7 and not report to campus. Supervisors will communicate instructions and remote work assignments for non-essential employees as needed.
Update: The Carvel campus in Georgetown will be closed Jan. 7 Lasher Lab will be opening for samples by noon.
All Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at University of Delaware sites (Dover, Lewes, Newark, Ocean View, Wilmington) will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Schedule updates
The Carpenter Sports Building; the Morris Library; the Student Centers; and Student Wellbeing at Warner Hall will open at 10 a.m. Information about any additional closings or schedule changes will be posted on UDaily. Please check here for updates: https://www.udel.edu/udaily/
Personal safety
Safety is UD’s highest priority. Faculty, staff and students should not put themselves at risk, and employees who expect difficulty traveling should contact their supervisors.
