Students Can Participate in Career Mentoring Program

UD program connects UD alumni with students for industry insights

Students can take advantage of a free program, the University of Delaware Career Mentoring Program in partnership with Mentor Collective, that matches junior and senior students with UD alumni in their industry of interest for an entire academic year.

Participating UD colleges in 2023–24 include the Joseph R. Biden, Jr. School of Public Policy and Administration, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education and Human Development, College of Engineering, Graduate College, College of Health Sciences, Honors College, and the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment. After students complete an online survey about their interests, they are matched with an alumni mentor with similar career interests and experiences. From there, they decide with their mentor on how and how often they wish to communicate, whether it’s in person or through Zoom, texts or emails.

“I learned how to best network myself,” said Paige, a UD mentee in the program last year. “My mentor helped me prepare for a networking opportunity and then with how I should follow up afterward.”

In addition to gaining insights into their industries of interest, student mentees can also receive guidance on internships and graduate school, tips on interviewing and networking, and how to balance the demands of professional and personal life.

“My mentor helped me significantly in learning more about career options, namely if I needed to pursue graduate school first,” said Ben, another UD mentee in the program last year.

Students can register and complete the online survey now through Sept. 26 to be matched with a mentor this year.
