Therapy Approach
My clinical approach is integrative and treatment is based upon each person’s unique needs. We begin by assessing and increasing your understanding of your concerns or difficulties. Together we understand your strengths, coping mechanisms, past experiences and problems that interfere with your life. Societal influences, race, culture and biological influences are explored as these can have great impact especially for marginalized groups. Goals are set and worked towards as you receive support and guidance and are taught new skills. CBT, mindfulness, biopsychosocial, feminism and multiculturalism guide my approach. I work with many eating disorder clients, graduate students, GLBTQQIA and international students. I often run groups for graduate students and eating disorders.
Supervision Approach
My model of supervision is developmental, relational and collaborative. A safe environment is critical to explore strengths, growth areas and to work towards your specified clinical goals. I believe watching clinical videos is the best way for supervisees to learn and grow; this can be a vulnerable process. My supervision focus is on clients receiving ethical and quality treatment and on supervisee growth, competence and confidence. Cultural humility, multicultural counseling, countertransference, ethics, risk management and professional development among some important topics and skills that will be focused on.
