The Nash M. Childs Living Wall in the Tower at STAR brings the outdoors in, inviting inspiration, relaxation, and reflection among the swirl of colors and plant varieties on display in the on-of-a-kind space. 

The space is also functional, with a small chef’s garden featuring herbs that can be plucked and added as part of the cooking activities in the adjacent demonstration kitchen.

The wall is named for Nash Childs, who graduated from UD in 1976 and served as executive vice president and partner of Bancroft Construction Company.

Charles Park was named “The Sculptor of Delaware” by former Governor Jack Markell. Charles Parks touched the lives of many through his splendid work. His art, rooted in Delaware, conveys his commitment to family and friends. His spirit lives on through his body of work and continues to bring joy to all who view them. These sculptures add a humane and rich iconic Delaware touch that brings meaning ot the work happening on STAR Campus — work driven to improve the health of all Delawareans. “The Point is to create symbols that fill a spiritual need in one’s own time”

University of Delaware physical therapy students, faculty and staff dedicated the new labyrinth at STAR campus to UD’s anatomical donors. 

The idea for the labyrinth came from graduates of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program’s Class of 2018, who wanted to show their gratitude to the “silent teachers” who played an integral part in their education. 

A special garden located directly outside the Tower at STAR is dedicated to celebrate and honor the impact of three tremendous women – Jane Maroney, Muriel Gilman, and Kitty Esterly – whose hard work, advocacy, and support have left a tangible imprint on the College of Health Sciences. These women are fierce advocates for the health of many throughout the state and local community, as well as supporters of advancing opportunities for nurses to take a more active role in the clinical care of their patients.
