The Dynamics of Communication

Analyze issues, unlock influence

Welcome

The Department of Communication at the University of Delaware is committed to the study and practice of human communication in a wide variety of contexts, including interpersonal communication, media communication and public relations. Beyond the classroom, we help students put their education into practice with experiential learning on and off campus. Students have access to internships, research opportunities and a vast alumni network.

Our faculty members have achieved regional and national distinction in research and scholarship, teaching, and service and engagement. They are committed to developing communication skills and competencies while educating students about communication processes and their impact on society.

WHY COMMUNICATION at UD?

  • With holistic support from advisors, communication undergraduates finish in four years prepared to pursue employment in a range of fields — including marketing, law, mass media, public relations, human resources, and education. Communication majors can apply for the 4+1 program to earn an M.A. degree in strategic communication.
  • Communication graduate students plot their own success through individualized development plans. They work collegially as part of research teams, alongside faculty and fellow students.

How many graduates with communication degrees are employed or pursuing further education?

New Research from UD’s Center for Political Communication Shows Little Public Trust in Musk, DOGE

New data from the Center for Political Communication (CPC) at the University of Delaware shows many Americans have little trust in either Elon Musk or the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Only one in four Americans report “a lot” or “a great deal” of trust in Musk or DOGE. And only about half of Republicans report “a lot” or “a great deal” of trust in either (compared to 70% of Republicans who report “a lot” or “a great deal” of trust in President Trump). Meanwhile, among independent voters, only 11% report “a lot” or “a great deal” of trust in Musk and 13% in DOGE.
