3 Reasons Why You Should 100% Attend Alumni Weekend

The biggest alumni event of the year is just around the corner—Alumni Weekend 2022 takes place June 3–5 on campus. If you’ve never been to an Alumni Weekend, you might be asking, what makes it such a big deal? We’re breaking it down into three major reasons why attending the weekend’s festivities is totally worth it.

Visiting the places and people that shaped you in college will feed your soul

The truth is, it always comes down to the people—the Blue Hens who became close friends, roommates, coworkers, partners. Being back together on campus and staying in the dorms reignites the memories you share with each other. You’ll have many conversations that start with, “Remember that time when …?” The laughs, late-night pizza, pulling all-nighters for finals (wait, but that never happened, right?)—all these moments become real again when you step onto campus with your Blue Hen besties. And yeah, that happiness and nostalgia will feed your soul, probably for longer than you think!

Events like Buzz with Beekeeping and the 6-WIRE concert will feed your mind

You know what is really underrated? You can still learn a lot from UD after you graduated at no extra cost. Like, maybe you're curious about beekeeping or even interested in donning a beekeeper veil and protective gear to handle the honeycomb yourself. There’s a FREE Buzz with Beekeeping event for that. Want to just sit back and enjoy a mix of classical and classic rock music performed by a world-class ensemble? That’s another FREE event. (By the way, did you know that music can reduce anxiety and blood pressure and improve sleep quality, mood, mental alertness and memory?) These experiential events will feed your mind, and maybe even provide you random trivia knowledge for parties or quizzo.

If all else fails, you’ll at least be fed!

You can count on the food. There are receptions, brunches, wine pairings and of course, Dela-Fest. The biggest party of Alumni Weekend features live music, lawn games and a three-hour open bar with local craft beer, wine and delicious bites including UDairy ice cream to satisfy your sweet tooth (all included in the price). Plus, nothing is stopping you from hitting up your favorite spots on Main Street in between or after Alumni Weekend events. How would anyone expect you to come back to campus without squeezing in a bagel at NDB? If you love food, then consider this your sign to come back to campus. (Plus, on Sunday, you can make up for your weekend gluttony by running in the Blue Hen 5K—it’s a win, win!)
