Three Myths about the UDAA

Not all alumni associations are created equal. The University of Delaware Alumni Association (UDAA) is a dedicated organization for all UD alumni, with programs, awards, events and more benefits that any and all Blue Hens can access. Read on for a few common myths about the UDAA and the reasons why they are busted.

Myth #1: You pay dues to join.

There are no dues! Upon graduation, UD alumni are automatically UDAA members and have equal access to all benefits. The UDAA is dedicated to helping our Blue Hens thrive—through career and professional development, connections with classmates and Blue Hen professionals, enriching events and so much more.

Myth #2: The UDAA is part of and funded by the University.

Actually, the UDAA is a separate 501c3 organization, but has always been a strong partner of the University. It does not receive funding from the University for its programs or operations, but it is managed by a group of strong volunteers and does receive some operational and programmatic support from staff in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at UD.

The UDAA receives funding through programs such as:

Myth #3: The UDAA is only in charge of the annual Alumni Awards.

The UDAA Outstanding Alumni Award, Alumni Wall of Fame and Warner and Taylor Awards, recognizing the best and brightest Blue Hens, are just a piece of the pie! There is a group of dedicated alumni on the UDAA Board of Directors who work diligently to offer Blue Hens programs and events that are relevant, helpful and insightful. Some examples include:

  • Regional events, which we hope to get back to doing once social distancing restrictions are lifted. In the meantime, check out the many regional alumni clubs around the country and connect with others in your area in dedicated Facebook groups.
  • Support for affinity alumni groups, such as the Black Alumni Organization and Nursing Alumni Network. See more about affinity groups.
  • UD Career Acceleration Network (UD CAN), where alumni professionals can network with each other and with current students, access a job board for postings tailored to the Blue Hen community and more!
  • Special banking rates, discounts on test prep and more alumni benefits.
