UD becomes the 131st signatory of the National Intercollegiate Mutual Aid Agreement

The University of Delaware has marked a significant milestone by becoming the 131st signatory of the National Intercollegiate Mutual Aid Agreement (NIMAA). NIMAA is a legal framework that’s sponsored by the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Universities and Colleges Caucus (UCC). The UCC is a national group consisting of institutes of higher education and their representatives from emergency management and other safety related disciplines.

Joining NIMAA has no cost and connects UD with a network of other universities and colleges who stand ready to provide support during emergencies, disasters and large-scale special events.

Example of use:

  • University of Miami – Hurricane Irma in 2017 resulted in the evacuation of campus for the first time in school history. Via NIMAA, emergency managers from St. Edward’s University and Binghamton University were deployed to provide critical support.
  • George Washington University – George Washington’s Emergency Operations Center was supported during President Biden’s inauguration in 2021 through NIMAA.
  • Umpqua Community College – Following a shooting incident that occurred in 2015, the University of Oregon provided student life, communications, and emergency staffing support.
  • Emerson College – Law enforcement support was provided through NIMAA to address staffing shortages due to COVID-19.

Ultimately, UD’s NIMAA membership signifies its dedication to safety and underlines UD’s Office of Emergency Management’s role in fostering a more resilient environment for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
