Re: Gary's Recollections of Delta
I have to echo what Ralph and Aron have said about perl. Its the
closest thing I've come to BASIC-PLUS in terms of productive
interactive development environments. M-x perldb in emacs gives it
everything that those fancy development environments on the PC have
(with the exception of creating one's GUI by dragging components off a
palette and adjusting property values). Perl's string handling
exceeds the string functions of B+ with its associative array handling
however. I like the fact that perl stole all the best from B+, awk,
sed, grep, etc. Of course it is a bit of a beast as a result. (Perl
stands for "practically everything, right Larry?" :)
