blind/visually impaired community in Delaware. This section is under constant

GOVERNMENT AGENCIES:
The Division For The
Visually Impaired (DVI) is Delaware's state agency serving blind and
visually impaired children and adults. The agency provides orientation and
mobility services (O&M), educational support services for children,
independent living training, vocational rehabilitation and other services. Contact

TRANSPORTATION:
- For information about paratransit, bus, train and ride-sharing programs in
Delaware, visit the Delaware Authority for Regional
Transit (DART) web site. If you need assistance planning a bus or train

For information on ADA Certified Paratransit Service (DAST) in Delaware
(door-to-door transportation for citizens with disabilities who must go
through a certification process before being considered eligible for the

if they can help.
RECREATION:
The Delaware Association For The Blind (DAB)
offers recreational activities for blind/visually impaired children and adults
including summer camps, trips to museums, dinner theaters and other places,
craft classes, Bingo and other activities with door-to-door transportation
provided. The Association also operates a store which sells large print, braille
and tactile products for blind/visually impaired individuals , and provides a
peer support group for those experiencing vision loss. DAB also runs a taping
program which records, and distributes free of charge, material from national
and local print publications. These are just a few of
the services this organization provides. DAB often works closely with DVI. You can also contact DAB at:

READING MATERIAL IN ACCESSIBLE FORMATS
- If you or someone you know has a print disability, including blindness or
visual impairment, you may be eligible for services provided by the Delaware Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped
(LBPH). The services are free, including postage, the tapes, and the special
tape player required to play the special-format tapes. The program is
administered by the National Library Service for the Blind & Physically Handicapped
(NLS) of the Library Of Congress through a network of regional libraries
throughout the country. To find out if you or someone you know is eligible

- If you are a patron of the Delaware LBPH, a member of the Delaware
Association For The Blind or a client of DVI, you are eligible for the Newsline
Service, which distributes national and local newspapers via telephone
and synthetic speech through a local telephone number. This program is
administered locally by the Delaware Library For The Blind And Physically
Handicapped (LBPH) and the Delaware Association For The Blind (DAB).
Currently, the local paper is not carried on the system due to technical
problems, but check this site often for changes to this information. For
eligibility requirements and an application form, call LBPH at the numbers
listed above.
