3 + 3 PROGRAM INTEGRATED HEALTH SCIENCES PRE-OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY CONCENTRATION BS/ OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY DOCTORATE OTD

The curriculum for the BS in Integrated Health Sciences with a concentration in Pre-Occupational Therapy is designed for students accepted into the Doctorate of Occupational Therapy program with Thomas Jefferson University (TJU). The BS in Integrated Health Sciences with a concentration in Pre-Occupational Therapy is a full-time program, as is the TJU Doctorate of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program.

Students accepted into the 3+3 program will transfer into the BS in Integrated Health Sciences with a concentration in Pre-Occupational Therapy. Students complete 91 credits of the BS in Integrated Health Sciences with a concentration in Pre-Occupational Therapy at UD. Students then take a total of 128 credits at TJU for the Doctorate of Occupational Therapy (OTD) 33 of the TJU credits transfer back to UD and are applied to the UD BS in Integrated Health Sciences with a concentration in Pre-Occupational Therapy degree.

Briefly, students complete 3 years of full-time study at TJU over the course of 2 summers, 3 fall, and 3 spring semesters. 

After completing the 3rd semester of study in the BS in Integrated Health Science program at UD, students may apply for admission into the 3+3 (BS+OTD) Accelerated Dual Degree Program. 

Students must possess the following minimum qualifications at the time of application:

1. Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 at the time of application, and if accepted, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 through the end of junior year.
2. Grade of “B-” or above in all Occupational Therapy program prerequisite coursework that has been taken up until time of application. Jefferson College of Rehabilitation Sciences (JCRS) will require the following four (4) prerequisite courses to be completed (with a grade of “B-” or above) at UD by the time of application: 

• ENGL 110 Seminar in Composition
• SOCI 201 Introduction to Sociology
• STAT 200 Basic Statistical Practice
• KAAP 309 Human Anatomy and Physiology I
  

The application for the Accelerated Dual Degree Program will also include:

1. A personal statement describing the student’s experiences in Occupational Therapy along with their desire for the profession; and
2. A resume that includes proof of leadership, teamwork and/or community service experiences, along with documented occupational therapy experiences, if applicable.      

Academic Requirements prior to starting at TJU

1. Successful completion of all prerequisite coursework with at least a grade of a B- prior to starting at TJU: 
   • KAAP309 Anatomy and Physiology I w/Lab
   • KAAP310 Anatomy and Physiology II w/Lab
   • STAT200 Basic Statistical Practice
   • PSYC334 Principles of Psychopathology
   • HDFS201 LifeSpan Development
   • SOCI201 Introduction to Sociology
   • ENGL110 Seminar in Composition
2. All prerequisite coursework requirements of the first three years of the Accelerated Dual Degree Program’s articulated curriculum must be successfully completed at UD or otherwise approved by JCRS, with a transcript review performed by both UD and JCRS; The JCRS transcript review will occur after fall semester of junior year (year 3). The student must have earned at least a grade of a “B-” in all prerequisite coursework.
3. The student must maintain a Qualifying Cumulative GPA (3.0), after 5 semesters at UD and at the time of transfer to JCRS;
   • If a student repeats a course at UD, both course grades will be factored into the student’s cumulative GPA; however, the lower grade will be excluded from the Prerequisite GPA calculation;
4. The student must be in good academic and social standing at UD. Any violation of UD’s code of conduct or policies can result in loss of the student’s seat in the Accelerated Dual Degree Program; and
5. The student must have earned a conferred UD baccalaureate degree prior to the start of the second year of the OTD program at JCRS.

Occupational Therapy Shadowing Criteria prior to starting at TJU

1. The student must have documented proof of at least 8 hours of required occupational therapy volunteer or shadowing hours spread evenly between at least two different occupational therapy settings over the student’s career at UD; and
2. The shadowing hours are required to be completed by the end of the last term of enrollment at UD.
