dietetic application

IMPORTANT NOTEThe University of Delaware is required to comply with state and federal laws regarding the delivery of distance education. Please see the University’s State Authorization page for more information

For students who are currently enrolled in, or have completed, UD’s Nutrition and Dietetics major, MS in Human Nutrition, or PhD in Nutritional Sciences

1. DICAS application

The program is using the on-line centralized internship application DICAS, which may be accessed at https://page.liaisonedu.com/dicas/apply, e-mail DICASinfo@DICAS.org. The on-line application must be completed for our program by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on January 15, 2025. The fee to use DICAS is $50 for the first application submitted and $25 for each additional application.

When completing the application form, applicants must include the name and contact information (specifically an e-mail address) for each of their 3 references. This will trigger an e-mail message requesting completion of a reference form. The form will be completed on-line. We recommend obtaining references from 2 faculty members and 1 work or volunteer supervisor. However, extensive work experience may warrant submission of 2 work references and 1 faculty reference. Please give careful consideration to the people you ask to write your recommendations. To give your application the best possible chance in a competitive environment, it is important that the people who furnish your references know you and can attest to your abilities and accomplishments.

Applicants who apply to internships using DICAS will be asked to complete a personal statement. Questions to be addressed in the personal statement include:

  • Why do you want to enter the dietetics profession?
  • Discuss experiences that have helped you prepare for your career.
  • What are your short- and long-term goals?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses or areas needing improvement?
  • What other information do you consider important for the selection decision?
  • The response to all 5 questions combined may not exceed 1,000 words (8,000 characters).

Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended should be sent to: DICAS-Transcript Department, P.O. Box 9118, Watertown, MA 02472

2. University of Delaware Graduate Application

In addition to submitting the DICAS application, all dietetic internship applicants will need to submit a University of Delaware Graduate Application and pay a supplemental fee of $25.00$35.00 (credit cards or checks accepted). Please do not mail the application fee to the dietetic internship program. Applicants do not need to upload recommendation letters as these will come from the DICAS application.
