Biography
Ruwida Alkrekshi, M.A., TESL, M.B.A., is an academic development specialist and ESL instructor at the University of Delaware’s English Language Institute (ELI). At the ELI, she has designed, developed, coordinated and taught business English courses that help students and business professionals effectively integrate their own culture and business acumen with the English language. Ruwida mentors her colleagues in teaching business courses while simultaneously accumulating expertise in teaching other courses ranging from beginner to advanced levels and English for Academic Purposes for university-bound students.
Ruwida works closely with ELI’s Academic Transitions Program through teaching and coordinating UD credit-bearing courses and co-curricular activities.
Her teaching experience extends beyond the ELI, having served as a Spanish language instructor in UD’s Associate in Arts Program, where she has worked with linguistically diverse students in various classroom environments.
Ruwida is the founder and coordinator of the ELI Women’s Group, a social networking club that provides a welcoming, supportive and inclusive female community with its engaging activities, cultural programming and special events. She is proud that the ELI Women’s Group has been contributing to the ELI’s mission since 2014. Having lived in multiple countries around the world, Ruwida’s multilingual background in Arabic and Spanish have given her a particular advantage in understanding and relating to linguistic, cultural and social-emotional needs of international students.
She has a passion and deep-rooted commitment to teaching, focusing on students’ continuous improvement and progress toward individual academic goals. Ruwida encourages students to build their confidence and believe in themselves. In her free time, Ruwida enjoys a good Netflix binge but can also be found at the gym exercising on an elliptical or lifting weights.
