    Whether we are welcoming new students from many different lands or ELI representatives are visiting places away from home, everyone in ELI strives for a rich educational experience as both learners and teachers. In this edition, you’ll meet some of our new groups, travel with ELI, engage through culture nights, and celebrate holidays with ELI.

Mission Statement

Through an unwavering commitment to excellence and renewal, the ELI faculty and staff endeavor each day to enhance our reputation as a leader among intensive English programs. Our leadership is based on a clear understanding of our goals and the means to achieve them.  

As teachers, tutors, administrators, and staff, we strive to: 

  • Meet or exceed our students’ expectations for developing their linguistic, academic, and professional skills.
  • Contribute to international understanding by engaging students in meaningful intercultural exploration.

About the city of Newark

UD is located in the city of Newark in the state of Delaware.

Important: Newark, Delaware is not the same city as Newark, New Jersey!

Though Delaware is one of the smallest states in the country, it is one of the oldest states in the country—a fact that is visible in the state’s architecture, museums, and cultural centers.

Nearby cities

Newark is very close to some of the most interesting cities in the U.S. By car (driving distance), Newark is only:

  • 45 minutes from Philadelphia
  • 55 minutes from Baltimore
  • 2 hours from New York City
  • 2 hours from Washington, D.C.
  • 6 hours from Boston

In addition, Newark is only 2 hours away from beaches and ski resorts!

The climate in Newark is quite comfortable for most of the year. We experience all four seasons, including very warm temperatures in the summer (June, July, August) and mildly cold temperatures in the winter (January, February).
