Biography

Karen F. Parker, Ph.D., is a professor with the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware. Her current research interests include exploring the influence of macro-level constructs on urban violence, particularly labor markets, racial segregation and concentrated disadvantage. Much of her recent work has examined racial threat arguments and incorporated change models to examine how shifts in the local economy differentially influence race-specific homicide rates. Research on these topics has been published in Criminology, Crime and Delinquency, Social Currents, American Journal of Public Health, and Urban Affairs Review.
