All Music major students are assigned to the School of Music Academic Advisor and a faculty advisor according to their program. The Music Academic Advisor works with students who have a music major from orientation to graduation to assist with registration, course planning, and academic skills for musicians. Music faculty advisors serve as professional mentors and are often the performance studio instructor for a student’s primary instrument, including voice.

The most successful music major students meet with either or both of their assigned advisors at least once each semester. Students talk with their advisors about academic and career planning, co-curricular and professional opportunities, connecting with campus resources, or simply share the excitement of learning something new.

Prospective music majors who submit all application materials to the Undergraduate Office of Admissions by January 15 are automatically considered for merit-based scholarship at the time of their audition for the School of Music. These awards are guaranteed for eight consecutive semesters, provided the student remains a music major, participates in an approved university ensemble, and maintains the minimum 3.00 major GPA requirement each semester and based on residency status.

Music merit scholarships are awarded based on the needs of the School's ensembles and reflect a combination of both a student's musical potential and his or her academic achievements. The School of Music takes into account a student's academic merits when determining music merit scholarships, thus the Undergraduate Admissions office does not distribute additional academic merit scholarships to music majors. Non-music majors are not eligible for music scholarships.

Undergraduate music majors participating in Marching Band receive an additional stipend of approximately $400 per year, pending annual budgetary approval. For additional information about Marching Band scholarships, please contact Brooke Johnson, director.
