Biography

Sarah England Baab is a historical musicologist specializing in American music. Her research is focused on the intersections of race, gender, and politics in popular music of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Her doctoral dissertation explores the life and works of Golden Age songwriter Harold Arlen as a lens through which to better understand complex narratives surrounding Tin Pan Alley and race.

In addition to her research, Ms. England has maintained an active teaching presence, and has served on faculty at the University of Maryland, College Park, University of Maryland Baltimore College, Towson University, and Rowan University. At the University of Delaware, she teaches courses in undergraduate music history sequence in addition to various graduate courses.
