Biography
Noël Archambeault is an Associate Professor of Voice at the University of Delaware where she teaches voice and voice pedagogy. She has previously served on the music faculties of Lincoln University, Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University–Kingsville and Mineral Area College, and as a member of the artist faculty at the Brevard Music Center. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, a Master of Music in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, a Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Performance from Texas Tech University, and a certificate in Vocology from the National Center for Voice and Speech.
As a pedagogue, Dr. Archambeault is a successful researcher in the areas of vocal jazz, the use of technology in the voice studio, and cross training the voice. She has been published in The Voice Foundation’s Journal of Voice and the American Choral Directors Association’s Choral Journal and is the ACDA representative on the NATS Voice Science Advisory Committee. Dr. Archambeault is a frequent guest presenter for various organizations including, the International Congress of Voice Teachers, The Voice Foundation, and the College Music Society.
Dr. Archambeault’s performing career has been marked by tremendous vocal and dramatic versatility and has included performances of operatic and concert repertoire from soprano and mezzo-soprano literature. As a recitalist, Dr. Archambeault is in great demand as an interpreter of 20th-century and contemporary music. She is the founder of the Chicana Art Song Project, an interdisciplinary collaboration with Chicana poets, musicians, and visual artists.
As a first-generation Latina, belonging and inclusion are integral to Dr. Archambeault’s work and vision for arts in service of social justice. She is on the American Choral Directors Association’s Diversity Initiatives Committee, where she was the co-chair of the task force on Guidance and Resources on the Care of Transgender Singers, and beginning in Fall of 2024 Dr. Archambeault will serve as a Faculty Fellow for the University of Delaware’s Anti-Racism Initiative.
Dr. Archambeault lives in Maryland with her husband, also a professional singer, Dr. Blake Smith and their son, Dalton, music critic extraordinaire. When not teaching or singing, Dr. Archambeault enjoys competing in triathlon and dabbling in equestrian activities. She is an Ironman finisher and hopes to add many more long-distance events to her race resumé.
