Biography

​​Colin Miller is Director for Global Arts at the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and oversees the CAS International Artist in Residency program. He teaches the Popular Music of the Global South and Passport to the Arts courses. He hol​​ds a joint appointment at the Center for Global Programs and Services (CPGS), where is administrative director for the Mandela Washington Fellowship program. Additionally, he is Chair for the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Committee, UD Anti-Racism Initiative (UDARI).

Miller graduated from the University of Cape Town with a diploma in Jazz Studies and ​​a degree in Musicology. His instrument of choice is the guitar, an​​d he is versatile in a wide range of popular music and jazz styles. His publications include ‘The South African Jazz Collection’, transcriptions of jazz tunes by South African composers.

Prior to his appointment at UD, Miller was deputy director for Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council Liaison office for Southern Africa, based in Johannesburg. Additionally, he served as the arts and culture adviser to the Swiss Agency for Development a​​nd Cooperation (SDC) and played a key role in identifying projects that promote the developmental goals of SDC.​​
