Biography
Stacia Bourne, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Pychological & Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware. Her scholarly research explores children’s social and emotional development and narrative ways of making sense of important autobiographical experiences. She conducts basic and applied research and uses multiple methods of assessment, including self-report, observational coding, psychophysiology, narrative coding, and speech signal processing methods (e.g., f0). She currently is collaborating with other scholars at the University of Delaware to research an attachment-based parenting intervention for families with young children.
Bourne enjoys teaching and mentoring students to become competent and confident scholars and researchers, with a focus on developing students’ methodological and statistical skills. She has taught psychology courses at five higher education institutions and has lived in all major regions of the United States.
For her undergraduate education, Bourne attended Seattle University, majoring in English literature and minoring in women studies and philosophy. In past careers, she was a K-12 teacher, worked in higher ed administration (e.g., in the dean of students office), and was a full-time researcher. Her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees are in psychology (developmental area) from the University of Utah.
