Research
Professor Yi Ji works in the area of spintronics or spin-based electronics. Spin is a fundamental quantum property of electrons with two intrinsic states. Yi Ji’s research explores the injection, transport, detection and functionality of spin polarized current in lithographically defined mesoscopic metallic heterostructures. Many efforts are devoted to enhancing the spin relaxation lengths of materials and improving the spin injection efficiency. Various experimental systems are designed to study both fundamental and applied aspects of spin currents. Recent examples include the demonstration of low temperature copper spin relaxation length exceeding 3 micrometers, spin transfer torque (STT) effects with pure spin currents, anisotropic spin relaxation in nanoscale metallic channels, Kondo spin relaxation, tuning of spin relaxation by ionic gating, and the study of spin Hall effects.
