Scholarships

 

The German Section of the Department of Languages Literatures and Cultures offers two substantial scholarships for the Leipzig Program.

  • David and Alison Matsen Scholarships: ca. $1,500. This scholarship is need-based.
  • German Community Scholarship: ca. $1,200

Program Costs

This year’s estimated program fee is $3,740 and includes apartments (shared with other UD students) and some group meals; health insurance; various in-country excursions to historical sites in Leipzig, weekend excursions to Berlin; program management, instruction and class space; UD course and on-site program management; and pre-departure orientation and materials.

Not included: airfare to Germany ($1,200), local transportation, meals, and UD tuition and fees ($2,633 for residents and $7,065.00 for non-residents based on current year). Scholarships and awards are available; learn more about financing your trip abroad.

This unique academic journey broadens perspectives and provides an immersive exploration of Leipzig’s vibrant heritage. Join us for a course that transcends traditional learning, connecting you deeply to the essence of German culture. Satisfies the University History Breadth, Arts and Sciences Group B, and Multicultural.
  • GRMN 106-070: German II – Elementary/Intermediate or GRMN 107-070: German III – Intermediate (4 credits, taught in German). Satisfies COE EG Breadth Requirement. Explore subjects rooted in contemporary German life in this dynamic course. Tailored for students eager to expand their understanding of German culture, the program offers a platform for enhancing both oral and aural language proficiency. Engage in insightful discussions that provide a nuanced insight into the vibrant and evolving facets of German society. Elevate your language skills while delving into topics that mirror the pulse of the present, fostering a deeper appreciation for the cultural richness and diversity within the German-speaking world.
  • Additional course option for more advanced students to receive credit for a 200 or 300 level language course (3 credits, taught in German).

German for Engineering Certificate Courses

  • GRMN 206-070: Culture through Conversation (3 credits, taught in German). Intermediate German language and culture class. Explore subjects rooted in contemporary German life in this dynamic course. Required Course for all Students

  • UNIV 370: Study Abroad – Leipzig, German GRMN (0 credits, pass/fail). This course asks students to reflect upon changes in their knowledge, skills, and attitudes that result from their participation in this study abroad experience. Satisfies Discovery Learning requirement.
