Granada, Spain — Summer (advanced)

This year’s program fee is $3,520 and includes a homestay (single or with another UD student) with some meals; international health insurance; excursions to the Alhambra palace and Generalife gardens, the Royal Chapel, the Cathedral of Granada, the famous Albaycín neighborhood, Cordoba and Sevilla; airport pick-up and drop-off in Granada; UD on-site program management; Pre-departure orientation and materials.  

Not included: airfare to Spain ($1,250), local transportation, and UD tuition and fees ($2,633 for residents and $7,065 for non-residents based on current year). Scholarships and awards are available; learn more about financing your trip abroad.

LLCU 208-070: Cultures in Context (3 credits, taught in English). Explore Spain’s history and culture! Deepen your understanding with thought-provoking readings and discussions. This unique academic journey broadens perspectives and provides an immersive exploration of Spain’s vibrant heritage. Join us for a course that transcends traditional learning, connecting you deeply to the essence of Spanish culture. Satisfies the University History Breadth, Arts and Sciences Group B, and Multicultural.

SPAN 107-070: Spanish III – Intermediate (4 credits, taught in Spanish). Reinforce grammar concepts, hone speaking and writing skills, and tackle moderately challenging reading materials in this comprehensive review. Prerequisite: SPAN 106, four years of high school Spanish, or permission of placement advisor or program director. Satisfies the Arts and Sciences Foreign Language requirement, COE EG Breadth Requirement.

SPAN 200: Spanish Composition and Grammar (3 credits, taught in Spanish). Grammar review targeting structure, essential vocabulary, speaking, listening and extensive writing. 

SPAN 206: Culture through Conversation (3 credits, taught in Spanish). Explore subjects rooted in contemporary Spanish or Latin American life in this dynamic course. Tailored for students eager to expand their understanding of Hispanic culture, the program offers a platform for enhancing both oral and aural language proficiency. Engage in insightful discussions that provide a nuanced insight into the vibrant and evolving facets of Spanish and Latin American society. Elevate your language skills while delving into topics that mirror the pulse of the present, fostering a deeper appreciation for the cultural richness and diversity within the Hispanic world.

SPAN 305-070: Oral Communication (3 credits) Refine your Spanish fluency while exploring new cultures. Perfect for Spanish enthusiasts ready to elevate their language skills. Dive into abstract discussions and practical communication. Dive deep into practical communication through conversations, presentations, and cultural discussions. Explore abstract ideas, express preferences, and speculate about the future in Spanish while immersing yourself in a vibrant cultural setting. Prerequisite: SPAN 200. Fulfill COE Breadth Requirement.

Span 405-070: Advanced Oral Communication and Culture. (3 credits) Ready to level up your Spanish? This course is your key to fluency, helping you speak with confidence and navigate any cultural situation. Immerse yourself in Spanish language and culture as you explore Granada. From mastering everyday conversations to understanding complex cultural nuances, this course empowers you to thrive in diverse Spanish-speaking environments, preparing you for success in today's globalized world. Prerequisites: SPAN 300 and SPAN 305. Fulfill College of Engineering EG requirement.

SPAN 308-070: Contemporary Spain II (3 credits) Embark on an enriching journey as we delve into the vibrant tapestry of Spain's modern culture, politics, and society. Join dynamic discussions exploring Spain's dynamic role in today's European community. This course offers an immersive learning experience taught abroad, in the heart of Spain, and entirely in Spanish. Seize the opportunity to broaden your horizons while earning credits! Prerequisite: Completion of any two 200-level Spanish courses. Fulfills COE Breadth requirement.

UNIV 370: Study Abroad – Granada, Spain (0 credits, pass/fail). This course asks students to reflect upon changes in their knowledge, skills, and attitudes that result from their participation in this study abroad experience. Satisfies Discovery Learning requirement.
