Delaware Teachers Program
The Delaware Teacher's Program is a unique opportunity for public school teachers to participate in a two-week intensive immersion program abroad, and to earn three graduate credits. Through a grant from the Delaware Department of Education and support from the University of Delaware, teachers can participate for a very low fee aside from airfare.

Cáceres Spain
June 15 to June 29, 2025
Delaware teachers are invited to participate in a two-week intensive immersion program in Cáceres, Spain.
Increase your language proficiency, cultural knowledge, and intercultural competence while earning graduate credit in a city declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO.
Network with educators, administrators, and professionals in Spain. Partner with local schools for collaborative projects while broadening your understanding of diverse teaching methodologies and educational systems.
Earn three (3) or six (6) credits that will count towards an MA, in Languages, Literatures, Cultures, and Pedagogy, or a graduate certificate in Educational Leadership and Intercultural Competence Development in Spanish. For more information, contact:

SPAN 667: Methods of Teaching Spanish Culture (3 credits)
At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Define cultural competence
2. Define the idea of identity in the region
3. Explain the importance of integrating the teaching of culture throughout every unit
4. Enhance critical thinking in the classroom through cultural awareness
5. Develop lessons for teaching culture in the classroom, embedded within current units
SPAN 668: Hispanic Children’s Literature (3 credits)
At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:
Explain the history and characteristics of the various genres of Hispanic children’s literature.
Explore the historical, social, and political influences reflected in Hispanic children's literature and their implications for teaching.
Create lesson plans, activities, and assessments that use Hispanic children's literature to develop students’ linguistic and cultural competencies at various proficiency levels..
Identify and integrate diverse cultural perspectives found in Hispanic children's literature to foster intercultural understanding in the Spanish language classroom.
Improve Spanish language proficiency by engaging with authentic literary texts, expanding vocabulary, and refining reading and analytical skills.
Develop strategies to encourage reading motivation and comprehension among Spanish learners through age-appropriate and engaging texts.
Program fee - Cáceres
The program fee is structured into two categories:
Delaware Public School Teachers – Eligible for funding through the Department of Education.
Out-of-State and Non-Public School Teachers – Eligible for program fee subsidies provided by our other donors.
Please note: The program fee does not include airfare to Madrid (estimated at $1,200) or personal travel and activities outside the program.
