Biography
Julia Hulings, Assistant Professor of Russian, teaches courses at all levels within the Russian Studies program. Her particular areas of interest include the movements of Realism, Naturalism, and Socialist Realism to include mainly prose of the mid- to late- nineteenth century through the Soviet era. She also teaches courses in translation (LLCU 327- Topics in Russian and Soviet Literature and LLCU 375- Topics Russian and Soviet Culture) that provide a good survey or overview of Russian literature, culture, and history for majors, minors or anyone who has an interest in things Russian. Her newest courses explore science fiction and Cold War culture, and she hopes to develop the themes of madness in literature and material culture into courses with mass appeal. Professor Hulings serves as chair of the language within the department, as transfer-of-credit contact, as adviser to Russian Studies majors and minors, and as adviser to the university chapter of the National Slavic Honor Society, Dobro Slovo.
