UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS
The University of Delaware Department of History offers several undergraduate programs . Undergraduates who pursue a bachelor of arts in history immerse themselves in the study of the past and gain a deeper understanding of the present. In the process, they develop important skills in analytical thinking, critical reading, expository writing, and effective communication. This prepares them for a range of careers in fields like business, law, politics and policy, journalism, and nonprofit administration. Our majors acquire an informed perspective on the past, becoming knowledgeable citizens who can responsibly shape the future.

CONCENTRATIONS
Concentrations within the History major allow students to pursue a more focused program of study. Students with clear career objectives or who wish to pursue a graduate degree may find the concentrations particularly attractive.
OUR MINORS
Consider a Double Major
Many History majors pursue double majors that enable them to develop competencies in two fields, such as History and Political Science, History and Art History, History and Philosophy, or History and Literature. A double major in History and Political Science appeals to pre-law students, as does a major in History and a minor in Legal Studies. Some History faculty members serve as pre-law advisors. Other students combine a History major with a major or minor in one of the University’s Area Studies Programs—African, European, East Asian, Islamic, and Latin American Studies—or with interdisciplinary programs such as Women’s Studies, Africana Studies, Jewish Studies, Material Culture Studies, Irish Studies, and Religious Studies. History majors interested in careers in journalism may choose to complete the English Department’s Journalism minor.
The History Department participates fully in the University Honors College, offering its majors the opportunity to earn an Honors Degree or an Honors Degree with Distinction. All History majors are eligible for the numerous History honors and awards conferred at our Honors celebration each spring.
