Biography

​​​​Arwen P. Mohun specializes in the history of technology, capitalism, and gender. She is also interested in transnational history and the history of the senses.  Her most recent book is American Imperialist: Cruelty and Concequence in the Scramble for Africa. She is currently working on a new project, How Smell Changed about the transformation of mid-20th century American smellscapes.

Mohun's other publications include Steam Laundries: Gender, Work, and Technology in the United States and Great Britain, 1880-1940 (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1999); His and Hers: Gender, Consumption and Technology (University of Virginia Press, 1998) co-edited with Roger Horowitz; and Gender and Technology: A Reader (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2003) co-edited with Nina Lerman and Ruth Oldenziel Risk: Negotiating Safety in American Society (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2013) was awarded the 2014 Ralph Gomery Prize from the Business History Conference.
