Faculty and Staff in Art Conservation

The Department of Art Conservation at the University of Delaware boasts a dedicated team of faculty and staff members who are experts in their respective fields. Their collective expertise spans all areas within art conservation, including new media and preventive specializations. The department's faculty members are actively involved in research, teaching, and mentoring students pursuing careers working with cultural heritage, providing students with invaluable hands-on experience and exposure to the real-world challenges of conservation practice.

Undergraduate students complete most of their course work in the classrooms and conservation laboratory at the university's main campus and have the opportunity to intern with faculty at Winterthur Museum during their junior and senior years in the program. Students study with conservators and conservation scientists representing a broad range of conservation disciplines and educational and training backgrounds in addition to faculty from other University departments and programs, conservators in nearby museums, and visiting instructors.

Graduate students in our master's-level program benefit from the long-standing and highly collaborative relationship between the University and Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library. Masters students complete the majority of their coursework in the Louise duPont Crowninshield Research Building at Winterthur, which houses one of the country's largest and best-equipped museum analytical laboratories and seven state-of-the-art conservation studios. Graduate students work with UD, Winterthur, and affiliated faculty who are leaders in their field and who contribute significantly to the students’ experience throughout their time in Delaware and beyond. Students in our Preservation Studies doctoral program currently work with multiple units including art history, anthropology, Africana studies, Winterthur scientists, the Disaster Center, the Biden school of Public Policy and other external mentors.

The Art Conservation Department's administrative offices are in Old College at the University's Newark campus.
