D. Chanele Moore
Biography
Dr. Moore joined the Associate in Arts Program faculty in 2014. She teaches a range of introductory sociology courses, including Introduction to Sociology (SOCI201), Social Problems (SOCI209), Men and Women in American Society (SOCI 213), and Race in Society (SOCI215). Dr. Moore has also co-taught an experimental general education history course in the Associate in Arts Program, Delaware Stories: The Trial, Conviction, and Pardon of Samuel Burris (UNIV2167) with Dr. David Teague.
All of Dr. Moore's courses emphasize a key concept in sociology: the sociological imagination — a way of seeing the world that emphasizes the link, or connection, between individuals and the society in which they live. Dr. Moore's courses seek to spark and develop students' sociological imaginations by engaging students in their own learning. Students who work with Dr. Moore will have opportunities to link themselves — their ideas, feelings and behaviors — to the particular time and place in which they live.
Dr. Moore serves as the Chief Diversity Advocate for the Associate in Arts Program and supports the AAP's mission to promote students' success in and beyond the program. She also leads a faculty learning community aimed at supporting students outside of the classroom. Dr. Moore's service and scholarship advance inclusive teaching approaches for the AAP locally and the University of Delaware community more broadly.
Before joining the Associate in Arts Program, Dr. Moore taught sociology courses at Widener University, Holy Family University, and Delaware County Community College. Dr. Moore received her bachelor of science in psychology, with focus on group dynamics, from Bowie State University. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology, with specialization in race, class, and gender, from the University of Delaware. Her dissertation focused on black women leaders in K-12 education.
