Nick Gadino: Graduate Student Spotlight
April 09, 2025 Written by CAS Communication
Nick Gadino has always had an interest in the study of communication, but his impact at the University of Delaware goes far beyond the classroom. As an instructor in the Department of Communication, a key member of the TEDxUniversityofDelaware Executive Committee, and the Associate Director for Communication Studies in the Writing Center, Nick is certainly making his mark since graduating in meaningful, multifaceted ways.
At the Writing Center, Nick leads the team of Oral Communication Consultants (OCCs), a group of undergraduate peer tutors who help UD students, staff, and faculty at any stage of the speech preparation process. Whether it’s rehearsing for a class presentation, refining a podcast script, or crafting a persuasive research talk, the OCCs offer free, personalized support to help speakers strengthen their message (and their confidence). From outlining and visual aid design to reducing speech anxiety, the OCCs are focused on helping people communicate effectively and authentically.
Nick’s academic journey at UD is as rich and full-circle as his current roles. A true Blue Hen, he earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Mass Communication and Media Studies from the university. During his Ph.D. program, he focused on topics ranging from communication center scholarship to how media sharing influences romantic relationships, and even the effects of binge-watching on audiences.
Before returning to campus as a scholar and instructor, Nick worked for the National Association of Broadcasters in Washington, D.C., where he contributed to advocacy efforts on behalf of America’s television and radio stations. The experience helped shape his understanding of media’s power and deepened his commitment to helping others use communication effectively.
Now, Nick brings that same spirit of purpose to everything he does at UD. Whether mentoring undergraduate tutors or helping students prep for their next big presentation, he’s helping build a more confident, communicative campus, one conversation at a time.
