UD alum names Delaware History Teacher of the Year

The Gilder Lehrman Institute has named Anthony Swierzbinski of The John Dickinson School as the 2024 Delaware History Teacher of the Year. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional elementary through high school teachers' outstanding contributions to American history education.

The distinguished history educator is one of 53 finalists for the 2024 National History Teacher of the Year Award, set to receive a $1,000 prize and an invaluable collection of classroom resources.

Swierzbinski has been teaching at Dickinson since 2009. He taught civics and economics in high school, and his current teaching responsibility includes 6th and 8th grade social studies in the middle years' program. In addition, he has served as the cross country and track & field coach for the middle school’s entire history.
