College of Arts & Sciences Faculty Receive University Awards

UD’s Office of the Provost, in partnership with the Faculty Senate, recently honored members of the faculty for their achievements in several areas, including teaching; advising and mentoring; and scholarship and creative activities.
Award winners from the College of Arts and Sciences were:
Excellence in Teaching Award
Angela J. Hattery is a professor of women and gender studies and co-director of UD’s Center for the Study & Prevention of Gender-Based Violence. She is the author of 11 books, including her most recent book, Gender, Power and Violence: Responding to Intimate Partner Violence in Society Today (2019). She teaches courses on race and gender inequality, families, and methods.
Laura Salsini is a professor of Italian. Her professional interests include 19th and 20th century Italian literature, with a specialization in female writers, as well as Italian-American film and literature. Her scholarly work includes the monograph Gendered Genres: Female Experiences and Narrative Patterns in the Works of Matilde Serao. She teaches language, literature and culture courses, as well as courses in translation.
Excellence in Undergraduate Advising and Mentoring Award
Sebastian Cioaba is a professor of mathematical sciences whose research interests include spectral graph theory, and algebraic combinatorics and their connections and applications to other areas of mathematics and science. He has supervised three undergrad senior theses and more than 25 research undergrad or high school students as well as supervised or co-supervised seven Ph.D. students and four master’s degree students.
Jennifer Nauen is an associate professor and undergraduate program director in the department of biological sciences. Her research interests are in experimental design, the biomechanics of locomotion and marine biology. At UD, she focuses on teaching introductory biology and curriculum development for foundational courses in the biological sciences.
Mid-Career Faculty Excellence in Scholarship Award
Ben Bagozzi is a professor of political science and international relations whose primary areas of specialization are political methodology and international relations. Within international relations, his research and teaching interests include environmental politics, international political economy, and the study of intra and international political violence.
