Get Vaccinated Today!

September 03, 2024 Written by Sana Patil

As the summer ends, students are busy with back-to-school preparations. From shopping for school supplies and cute furniture for your apartment to checking canvas notifications as professors post their classes, there's much to do. Amidst all these activities, however, one crucial task should be noticed: getting vaccinated.

Prevention

Every college student is familiar with the wave of illnesses that spread through campus in the fall. The incidence of respiratory diseases such as the flu is known to peak later in the year as temperatures cool for the winter. Everyone thinks about preparing for this wave briefly when they add symptomatic treatments like Mucinex into their suitcases, but what about preventing it from happening in the first place? Vaccinations can protect individuals from severe diseases and contribute to herd immunity, lessening the possibility of outbreaks. Staying up-to-date with vaccinations is the safest and most effective way to stay healthy as you acclimate to your new college environment.

Symptoms

COVID-19 and the flu can cause sore throat, congestion, cough, fever, and headache. These symptoms can vary in severity and duration from person to person, but both viruses are highly contagious and common respiratory diseases that necessitate annual vaccination. Their rapid mutation and ability to spread infection underscore the importance of getting updated vaccines each year. Therefore, even if you received a flu vaccine or COVID-19 booster last year, it's essential to get vaccinated again this year to protect against the new strains of these viruses.

No one wants to get stuck at home with the sniffles during syllabus week.

Vaccination Clinic at UD

Talk to your doctor, check your local pharmacy, or search Delaware's state resource page to see where vaccines are offered. University of Delaware Student Well-being has a vaccination clinic where students can schedule appointments to stay current on vaccines and immunizations. It's also important to remember other preventative measures like washing your hands and getting enough sleep to boost your immunity. Take action now and get vaccinated before school starts to ensure a fantastic start to your fall semester!

From the development of rudimentary tools to today’s cutting-edge machinery, technological innovation in agriculture has steadily improved the efficiency of food and livestock production. Tools such as reapers, sickles, animal-drawn plows, seed drills, threshing machines, and a host of others from the early ages helped transform farming practices, with newer technology evolving from earlier ones or ideas. Even though tractors have come to symbolize mechanized agriculture, more advanced equipment, such as combines, has been part of the agricultural landscape over the past two centuries, further pushing the frontiers of what is possible on the farm.
