Time to Check-in

As we approach the holidays and come to grips with closing yet another year, it is critical to check in with ourselves and reset our mental health.

This time of year, daily tasks are potentially stressful and overwhelming. From the chaos of shopping, cooking, and baking; to the stress of travel, decorating, and spending time with friends and family – we can become exhausted just thinking about our pending list of responsibilities.

 Author and CEO Nick Ortner provides a comprehensive list of positive statements in “The Tapping Solution” (2013) to provoke his readers to check in with their mental health. An excerpt from the book is as follows: 

  • You are free to breathe and just be right here and right now.

  • How you feel right now will not be how you feel forever. This is just a small moment in a much bigger story.

  • You are not a failure, even if things don’t go perfectly and you don’t achieve perfection.

  • You have not missed out on what was meant for you. There is so much more beauty to come, even if you can’t predict it.

  • It is okay if it takes time. You can trust the process and allow things to unfold at their own pace.

  • You have done hard things in the past, and you can do them again.

  • You have permission to do whatever you need to do to nurture yourself today.

  • What you do today is enough. You are doing a great job.

  • You are whole and worthy, exactly as you are right here at this moment.

  • You are not alone, and you are so, so loved.

    James Glancey, a professor emeritus in the University of Delaware's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the College of Engineering, passed away on October 26, 2025. Remembered for his keen intellect and academic versatility, Glancey was equally at home in the engineering classroom and in the field with Delaware farmers. A UD alumnus, he also served as the agricultural engineer for UD Cooperative Extension from 2003 to 2023.
  • U.S.–China soybean agreement brings hope to Delaware growers

    A U.S.-China trade deal could bring relief to Delaware soybean farmers. The agreement says China will buy 12 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans this year and 25 million metric tons of soybeans each year for the next three years. Soybeans are the second largest crop grown in Delaware. Drew Harris of University of Delaware Cooperative Extension says more demand should mean better overall soybean prices.

    Designed for educators in early childhood education programs, the Let’s Grow Outside! professional development initiative is offered by the College of Education and Human Development’s (CEHD) Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood (DIEEC) in collaboration with UD’s Cooperative Extension. The program helps participants gain the knowledge and skills for developing and sustaining a garden, use a supplemental gardening curriculum and plan for age-appropriate garden activities with children.
