PROJECT SYNOPSIS

In early 2021, General Motors, the U.S.’s largest automaker, announced that it would only produce electric vehicles (EVs) by 2035. GM’s decision to fully electrify its lineup is the latest indication that the automobile market is experiencing a significant transformation, one that will see internal combustion engines replaced with electric motors and fuel tanks replaced with batteries. Municipal governments in Delaware should prepare for this eventuality by supporting EVs in their communities. This policy brief series will provide insights and recommendations for EV-ready counties, cities, and towns so local officials can begin laying the groundwork for the EV future.
