Brandywine flood study calls for ‘massive’ list of efforts to protect region from future storms

The Brandywine Flood Study, from the nonprofit Brandywine Conservancy, the University of Delaware’s Water Resources Center, and Pennsylvania’s Chester County Water Resources Authority, advocates a massive program that would rebuild, repair or remove “structural” features such as roads, bridges, dams and culverts that worsen flooding by restricting the flow of flood waters.

Scott Abbott is a Policy Scientist for Civics Education and Assistant Director of the Delaware Center for Civics Education at the Institute for Public Administration (IPA) in the Joseph R. Philip works closely with municipalities and state agencies to enhance local community resiliency. His research focuses on local climate change adaptation planning and implementation, with an emphasis on flooding and sea level rise mitigation policy. He also conducts policy research on non-traditional transportation systems such as bikeshare networks, electric vehicles, and autonomous vehicles.
